Moving and Handling

Moving and Handling: Safe, efficient movement.

What is Moving and Handling?

Moving and Handling Physiotherapy, also known as Manual Handling Physiotherapy, is a field of physical therapy that focuses on teaching individuals safe and efficient methods of moving and handling both themselves and others in various environments.

Often used by caregivers or healthcare workers to assist individuals with limited mobility, or for patients learning to move independently after an injury or illness.

Types of Moving and Handling

Manual handling refers to any activity that involves the use of force exerted by a person to lift, lower, push, pull, carry, reposition or restrain an object, person or animal.

Each of these tasks comes with its own risks and challenges, which is why proper moving and handling techniques are crucial to prevent injuries.

People Handling

We are qualified to provide moving and handling training for private carers, NHS staff, schools, councils, care and residential homes. We can train family, carers, and staff members with best practice techniques to move people in a safe and comfortable way, whilst maintaining their dignity, promoting independence, and minimising harm to the handler.

People handling involves moving or assisting people. This could be done in a care home/carer setting and can involve repositioning a patient in bed, helping a patient to stand or walk, or transferring a patient from a bed to a chair.

Moving and Handling can also be used in a school environment, assisting students with disabilities or those with special needs. This could be done by helping with movement, lifting a child, providing wheelchair assistance and fall prevention.

Our Moving and Handling Services

At Let’s Go Physio, we offer moving and handling training to a range of clients including private carers, NHS staff, schools, councils, care homes and residential homes. We can train family members, carers, staff and individuals on the best practice techniques to move people in a safe and comfortable way, whilst maintaining their dignity; promoting independence and minimising discomfort.

Our services include half-a-day, full-day and bespoke training packages for individuals, families and businesses and can be carried out in a one-to-one, or group setting.

We also provide manual handling risk assessments which are a legal requirement. Moving and handling risk assessments help to evaluate current techniques, identify risk areas that could lead to injury and develop skills and controls to reduce the risks.

Each client is different and our experienced team will create a bespoke moving and handling therapy plan tailored to your individual needs and requirements.
