Stroke
A stroke can occur at any age and the effects can wide ranging. We specialise in the advanced assessment and treatment of both children and adults who have suffered a stroke.
A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted either by a clot (ischaemic) or bleed (haemorrhagic).
It can affect speech, sensation, cognition, perception, sight, mobility and hand function. The consequences of a stroke can be life changing to both the individual and their family.
We aim to identify an individual’s main problems and through skilled knowledge and handling techniques maximise the efficiency and coordination of movement throughout the whole body to improve function and independence.
Rehabilitation following a stroke can take many years. If therapy input has been low or not optimal then progress can still be possible many years later.
Please see our Services page for further information on Body Weight Support Treadmill Training, Orthotics, Functional Electrical Stimulation and Bespoke Exercise Programs for more information on how we can help patients recover from the effects of a stroke.
