A personal account by Senior Orthotist and Physiotherapy Assistant Emily Farquharson
Since graduating from the University of Salford in 2021, Emily has worked within a wide range of orthotic settings.
With several years clinical experience Emily has provided orthotic care for newborns, paediatrics and adults across multiple NHS trusts through various private orthotic companies.
Emily is passionate about working with likeminded, dedicated medical professionals to ensure her service users are receiving the optimal level of support and care through evidence-based practice, both in the community and clinic settings.
She often discusses caseloads within multidisciplinary teams to ensure those under her care receive the very best orthotic intervention.
Alongside this Emily provides guidance and education for long-term conditions, using recognised resources to empower families and individuals.
A welcoming team
Since joining the Let’s Go Physio team, I’ve had the opportunity to gain exposure to a wide variety of orthotic and therapeutic supports.
The team brings a wealth of knowledge across equipment and physio resources, and they have been very generous in sharing their expertise.
From day one, I’ve felt welcomed and supported, allowing me to contribute in both my orthotic and physiotherapy assistant role.
As an Orthotist, it has been a refreshing change of pace to see clients within their own environments for longer sessions, whether it be at home or in school.
Alongside community visits, the 2D gait analysis facility at Northlight, Nelson, has added a level of data capture that has helped redefine my idea of objective outcome measures in orthotic assessment.
Working in the community
Working in these community settings provides valuable context, enabling me to develop a deeper understanding of each individual and their daily challenges. This insight helps inform clinical decision-making and contributes to more personalised prescriptions and care.
An exciting future
Beyond clinical work, I’ve enjoyed getting involved in a range of events with Let’s Go Physio, from charity quizzes in Manchester, to networking breakfasts at the Jolly Josh Centre in Rochdale, a place where we are proud to be an Anchor Network Member.
I’ve also had the opportunity to visit Crispin Orthotic with the team, learning more about additive orthoses and the 3D digital workflow process.
I’m excited to see what the coming weeks and months will bring. Let’s Go Physio consistently goes above and beyond for their clients, and I’m grateful to be part of a group of clinicians that are so committed to making a positive difference.
This is an exciting stage in my career, and I look forward to continuing to learn, grow, and contribute to the excellent work being done here.
