Neurological physiotherapy
Providing neurological physiotherapy services to adults and children with neurological conditions in Lancashire.
We are a team of neurological physiotherapists that help our clients and their families work towards improving and/ or re-establishing many areas of independence such as child development therapy, transfers, balance, walking, arm and hand function. As well as the ability to exercise, return to school or work.
Our trained team of physiotherapist will assess all current abilities and problems, discuss priorities and make treatment goals. From there we will make recommendations on a course of treatment working towards your identified goals.
Being able to practice specific tasks in between neurological physiotherapy sessions is vital and wherever possible we will recommend exercises to supplement treatment sessions. We can work alongside family members and/or carers to ensure that this is done safely and correctly. Maintenance physiotherapy as well as general fitness, strength and balance work is available.
Our Services
The prospect of treatment can be daunting. We want to make the whole experience as comfortable and as free from stress as possible. Here’s a little about what you can expect from us.
Initial Needs Assessments
We are experienced in assessing and treating clients who are involved in medico negligence claims. We are able to work alongside case managers, solicitors and multidisciplinary teams, working towards clients’ long term needs and goals.
Service Level Agreements
We are able to provide a variety of bespoke SLAs for numerous clients both in the public and private sectors e.g. schools and care homes.
We will work with you to identify your needs and goals to create a package of care.
Hands on Treatment
Techniques such as myofascial release, stretches, mobilisations, movement facilitation and kinesio taping are all treatment adjuncts which we are qualified in, to help our clients achieve their goals.
All therapists have specialist handling and facilitation skills to ensure clients start to move in the most efficient way which can often be difficult when there are changes in muscle tone, range of movement and pain.
Hydrotherapy
We are able to support our clients with access to hydrotherapy across the Northwest. Hydrotherapy uses warm water and hydrostatic properties to help muscles relax, gain greater range of movement, pain relief, strength and core stability, working towards functional goals. Hydrotherapy is a comforting, sensory experience which is especially useful when activities on land are difficult.
Task Practice
Once typical patterns of movement have been established its important to practice common activities of daily living in order to embed more efficient and effective ways of movement. We aim to make task practice meaningful and engaging for clients using familiar objects to the individual.
When working with children movement is encouraged through play making therapy sessions fun and engaging.
Bespoke Exercise Programmes
Following hands on treatment therapists will recommend activities and exercises to practice in between sessions in order to maximise the effects. Clear, concise and often picture based exercise programmes can be provided to meet client’s individual needs and goals.
Joint Working
All our therapists are familiar with working with family members and wider multidisciplinary teams. These include NHS staff, carers, nurseries, schools and employers. These links are important so that advice and recommendations are shared and incorporated across the client’s overall care package.
Orthotics
We are qualified to recommend and help organise orthotic appliances should clients need aids such as insoles, splints and many other body supports.
Equipment
Should clients require mobility aids such as walkers, standing frames and exercise-based equipment we can help assess, source and set up a wide variety of mobility aids and rehabilitation equipment.
We have developed links with suppliers and local representatives meaning we are able to draw upon many different pieces of equipment bespoke to our client’s individual postural management needs.
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
We have two trained therapists to assess and fit upper and lower limb FES stimulators.
FES is commonly used in the treatment of foot drop, the inability to lift the foot during walking.
Foot drop is a problem commonly associated with conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease and cerebral palsy.
Biodex Gait Trainer 3
The Biodex Gait Trainer 3 is a treadmill which provides biofeedback on walking parameters such as step length, speed and symmetry with the aim of improving the quality of walking. The treadmill uses audio cueing (Music Therapy) to improve the initiation and quality of walking.
Moving and Handling Training
Let qualified physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants provide your moving and handling training. We can train family, carers and staff members with best practice techniques to move people in a safe and comfortable way, whilst maintaining their dignity, promoting independence and minimising harm to the handler.
We offer ½ day, full day and bespoke training packages for groups and individuals.
